Year 6 have worked incredibly hard during SATs week and we have been so proud of their resilience, determination and maturity throughout the week. It has been a very tiring and long week however wherever possible we have enjoyed lots of playtime in the sun where we could relax and have some fun.

This week in Year 5, the children have been focusing on creating a structure in DT. We explored and investigated arch and beam bridges. We developed our understanding of structures by investigating how different shapes affect the strength. Also we created spaghetti truss bridges, by learning how different shapes can improve the strength of a structure.
Olivia and Izzy said, “It is was very fun but challenging trying to problem solve to create a strong beam to hold the weights without our bridge collapsing.”

This week, Year 3 have been focusing on prehistoric art. We have explored media people would have used in prehistoric times, creating rubbings using natural materials that we located around school and using spices to create our own paints. We have used charcoal to create animal drawings and brought all of these ideas together to create drawings of animals on cave walls. We even made our own textured cave walls by using lots of different resources. Great job, Year 3!

Year 6 have worked extremely hard this week and we are incredibly proud of the determination and dedication they have shown towards their final preparation for SATS next week. To have a break from English and Maths, we have started our new art topic using painting and mixed media to study a variety of artists. On Thursday, we analysed the painting, ‘My Parents’ by David Hockney. Our final piece of art will be to use painting techniques demonstrate out personal artistic intentions.

This week in Year 5 we have been looking at the artwork of Chila Kumari Singh Burman who makes artwork from more than one material. The children have completed some research in groups looking at terms such as ‘mixed media’ and ‘pop artist’. They have looked at her self-portrait called ‘Auto-portrait’ and how it is made up of 28 small portraits of herself. The children have had a go at doing their own portraits using continuous line drawing and using words from a poem to help them. The children will finish this weeks task by using collage techniques and paint to help them create a self-portrait.

We have been learning about blending colours to make new colours and looking at different shades of one colour. We have also looked at how these shades of one colour can be used to make an object look 3 Dimensional. We then had a go at creating some 3D art ourselves using these new skills – it was messy but great fun. We also had an amazing time celebrating the coronation on the field, it was lovely to see everyone waving their flags and sharing a good time together. Finally, in cricket last Friday, we learnt how to use the face of the bat to manoeuvre the ball – we cannot wait to find out what skills are next!

Yesterday children from both the Infants and Juniors joined together with their families to celebrate the King’s Coronation event. The sun was shining for us all and it was a brilliant afternoon on the big school field. The children enjoyed playing football with their friends, eating ice-cream, hula hooping to fabulous music and getting special tattoos and faces painted.

We have been looking at Hinduism in our RE topic. Children drew a picture of themselves, then thought about their different individual roles e.g. student , cousin etc. This was linked to the Trimurti and how Brahman takes on different roles- Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu.
