Cockton Hill Junior SchoolR.R.S.ARights Respecting ChildWe have introduced a new award in school - Rights Respecting Child of the Week. Each week staff or children can nominate pupils who they think have shown consideration of their rights and other peoples rights. Litter Lifters!'We have the right to a clean environment' Article 24 Our steering group decided they wanted to clean up the enivronment around our school. We called ourselves the Litter Lifters! We designed some posters and delivered some leaflets around the local community. On Wednesday 13th April, along with some people from Durham County Council's Big Spring Clean team we collected 11 bags of rubbish from the areas around our school. About the AwardAbout the Award Currently we are working in school to achieve Level 1 status in the Rights Respecting Schools Award. This award is an initiative by UNICEF to make child and adults more aware of childrens rights. We are working closely with the children in circle time, colour groups and in other areas of the curriculum to make sure they know more about their basic human rights.
